Mesquite police investigating early morning shooting

Mesquite police are investigating an early morning shooting that left one victim shot and in critical condition.

Police received a call at 1:59 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, about loud sounds of an argument and multiple gunshots at the Peachtree Apartments, 1402 S. Peachtree. When police arrived they found one victim, Roinico Harris, a black male born in 1979, in the driver's seat of a vehicle with injuries from a gunshot wound.

McKinney Boyd's new boys basketball coach Jason Burton is returning home to District 10-5A.

"I'm just excited for this opportunity," Burton said. "This is a dream job to be back in my home community and being able to teach these young men my values. I couldn't be more excited to be at Boyd."

29th Annual Pecan Grove Cemetery Memorial Day Tribute


Perhaps there is no more sacred place on earth than the gravesite of a fallen soldier, having offered his or her life so we may live in liberty and the peace of our home. Seven hundred seventy-six American veteran heroes now rest in the historic Pecan Grove Cemetery, from the Mexican War to the Persian Gulf wars. The history of McKinney, Collin County and Texas is woven among the historical figures also buried there. However, it is the “other” story, the story of courage and sacrifice, given with pride to our nation, that we honor each May.
