Saturday marked the last time this Stormy would see the Skeeters play and he went out with a win. Mesquite defeated Dallas Skyline, 35-14, at E.H. Hanby Stadium in a Class 5A playoff game.
Mesquite advances to meet Allen on Saturday at Texas Stadium in an area playoff game and Stormy won’t be along.
By all recollections Saturday, it will be the first game in which Stormy hasn’t appeared atop a trailer, which is equipped with a siren to sound after scores. Stormy needs to be renovated and he’ll miss next week’s playoff game at Texas Stadium. It wasn’t clear if the trailer would be repaired in time for next season.
Stormy saw Mesquite win its first football state championship in 2001 and was along for Mesquite’s first trip to the state championship game in 1974. Stormy and the Skeeters wagon was unveiled in 1966.
