The northeast corner of Virginia Street and Wilson Creek Parkway is getting a facelift as the big mound of dirt that currently sits on the once residential site is being transformed to be a medical office complex known as the McKinney Professional Village.

The 3.1 acres front Virginia and Hunt streets, and Wilson Creek Parkway and the medical office complex is the only one that is east of US 75 near McKinney’s Historic District, across the street from the First Christian Church.

Construction on the 10,000 square foot one-story medical office building should begin in October, said Russell Grimes, owner of the Grimes Development Company that is constructing and developing the site. Construction will also begin in January 2009 on the 10,000 square foot expansion to the McKinneyDentist.com dental office that fronts Virginia Street and is on the east side of the site. McKinneyDentist.com will have 30 additional parking spaces on the site, which will add much needed parking to the property as the dental office leases at least three parking spaces from the Grooms and Sons Hardware store that is immediately east of the dental office.

The expansion of the McKinneyDentist.com office building and the new medical office building should each take about two months to complete, Grimes said.

Crews are currently working on site development for the property, such as storm water drainage improvements, installing sanitary sewer lines and constructing the road that will lead to the office building, which should be completed in mid-August, Grimes said.

The medical offices will have a residential feel as they will be made up of brick and stone to keep in line with their residential neighbors adjacent to the property, Grimes said.

The McKinney Economic Development Corporation’s board of directors voted in January of this year to the Grimes Development Company $150,000 for storm water drainage improvements for the development. The investment of the site is $6.5 million dollars.
