E-mail This StoryFor “outstanding academic performance” the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) has named Tosch Elementary School to its 2008 Honor Roll. Tosch was named to last year’s list, as well.
Only 298 Texas public schools met the qualifications for this honor. The schools will be honored during the ninth Annual Honor Roll Schools Celebration Nov. 10 in San Antonio.
The award was established in 2000 to draw attention to those public schools that perform at the highest levels. Schools do not apply for recognition as a TBEC Honor Roll school; it is earned strictly for academic performance. ??
TBEC Honor Roll schools have demonstrated three or more consecutive years of high performance in all subjects compared to other schools serving similar student populations. In addition to having a high percentage of students meeting state standards on all tests, TBEC Honor Roll schools also have the highest percentage of students performing at the state’s most rigorous standard: commended on all tests.
“All personnel at Tosch are to be commended for the continued improvement in student achievement,” said MISD Superintendent Dr. Linda Henrie. “The teachers have used creative strategies to address the needs of each child and have made certain that students learned the required curriculum. I am very proud of each individual, adults and children, and look forward to other schools joining them on the Honor Roll next year.”
With some 730 students, including more than 200 in bilingual programs, Tosch Elementary is no stranger to success, having earned several accolades including being named a TEA Exemplary School in 2008 and 2002; being named a TEA Recognized School in 2007, 2000-200s, 1997-1999, and 1995. The school also earned Gold Performance Acknowledgements including being commended on reading/ELA in 2003-2006 and1999, commended on writing in 2006, 2003- 2004, Commended on Mathematics in 2006 and 2001-2000, and commended on science in 2005.
