From readers on election

I am proud to endorse Mike Anderson for State Representative, District 101, and I am writing to encourage everyone to vote for him on November 4 in the General Election. I know Mike Anderson and his family well because I served with him on the Mesquite City Council from 1992 - 2004. As a former Mesquite Police Officer, I know first hand that Mike is a man of high integrity and I admire him for that. He knows first hand how government can and should work. Mike has always had an “open door” policy. He believes in representative government for everyone, not just the influential few. He will focus on our economy, illegal immigration issues, tax growth issues and unchecked spending.

On Nov. 4, we will have the opportunity to elect a responsible, knowledgeable and dedicated public servant for all of the District 101. Please join me in supporting Mike Anderson for State Representative. Mike will be a strong voice for us all because he is one of us!

Steve Alexander

Former Mesquite City Councilmember

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage my fellow citizens to support Mike Anderson for State Representative in the upcoming General election November 4. I have known Mike for some 15 years, all the while living in Mesquite and owning and operating a business there.

During those 15 years, Mr. Anderson has taught my youngest son in Sunday School, we have attended church and Sunday School together, and I have seen he and his wife open up their home so students can spend a weekend with them every year. I have even painted beside him while we “Addressed Mesquite”. The integrity and honesty that I have seen portrayed in his personal and professional life has always been impeccable, and he is the same person in both arenas.

Mike Anderson has what it takes to get the job done in Austin. His 20 years experience on the Mesquite City Council, with the last 10 as Mayor, has provided him with the knowledge and “Know-How” to work effectively in the House of Representatives, representing the people of District 101. Mike knows the plight of Texas businesses and understands what is important to the people of this district. Mike worked hard to keep a lid on crime in Mesquite, and he helped start innovative programs that partner with our school district, working together to solve common problems. That’s what we need in Austin—someone who knows the issues and how to work together with others to address them.

We have a choice this year for District 101. One candidate has no experience in government and has lived in the district a brief time. Mike Anderson, a life-long resident of Mesquite, has dedicated over 20 years of his life to serving the citizens of District 101. No one loves Mesquite and District 101 more than Mike Anderson. He truly wants to help the folks of this area, and he can do that in Austin as our State Representative. I am privileged to call Mike my friend, and I look forward to the day when I can call him my State Representative for District 101. The choice is clear--join me in supporting Mike Anderson for State Representative.

Sincerely

Terry Henderson

As this year’s early voting continues and with election day itself getting even closer, the citizens of Texas House District 101 who have yet to cast their votes must not only make important decisions concerning the president, senator, sheriff and judges, but also on who will be their next state representative in Austin.

The two men vying for the position are Republican Mike Anderson, former mayor of Mesquite, and Democrat Robert Miklos, former chief prosecutor for the city of Dallas. Either man would certainly serve the citizens of our community very well, if we only had to deal with the happenings in our own district. But, that’s not the way it works. The person we send to represent us must deal with many statewide and nationally-related issues as well.

And, when we take into account this difficult time of crisis that our state, nation and fellow Americans face in the here and now, due to the failed leadership on all levels of government, who are we going to send as our representative?

Do we send someone who will support the same practices, policies and way of thinking that has put us all in this predicament in the first place? Or do we send someone who will represent the people in a fashion that is appropriate for our current situation?

Anderson served on the Mesquite City Council for 18 years, the last 10 as mayor. On the issues, he believes that small businesses in the district are hurting and jobs are being lost because the last legislature expanded the business franchise tax. He favors basing the tax on net income, rather than on higher gross income. Anderson also would work to make Texas a more attractive place for job growth through actions including lowering taxes and reducing outdated regulations, as well as by improving infrastructure and education. Anderson also supports the continued leadership of House Speaker Tom Craddick.

Miklos has served as the president of the Mesquite Bar Association. He favors increasing the small-business exemption to the margins tax, giving cuts to small businesses that provide health insurance for their employees, as well as making sure big businesses pay their fair share. His Fair Deal, Fair Share plan directly addresses the trends that have adversely affected working families. He thinks the state should work to lower electricity and homeowner insurance rates and college tuition, and it should expand health insurance for children. Miklos opposes toll roads as well, but if they are built, the tolls should end once the projects are paid for.

Republicans have been representing us, and leading us for years, and they have failed miserably. The Republican policies and practices that have caused this failure are the same that Anderson embraces and will take him to Austin if elected. Miklos, on the other hand, provides a vision that is progressive and shows that he has an understanding of the difficulties faced by the public on a daily basis.

So, I believe that Robert Miklos is the person that should represent Texas House District 101 and its citizens. He will bring the voice, and he will provide the leadership that the people of Mesquite, Balch Springs and Sunnyvale deserve.

I urge everyone who has not yet voted to vote for Robert Miklos for State Representative in Texas House District 101.

I am writing this letter to encourage you to support Mike Anderson for State Representative for District 101. Mike and I have known each other for the last six years. Our daughters have been friends since they were at Agnew Middle School together. Through this friendship, I have had the opportunity to witness the family side of Mike. Mike loves his family. He loves his girls and he cares about their friends.

Not only are Mike and I friends, as associate pastor of a local church in Mesquite, I have had the opportunity to work with Mike on community issues. As mayor, Mike always made it a priority to keep ministers in our community informed about issues facing our community and he always sought our advice on how to address important issues. Mike truly is a coalition builder. As mayor, he encouraged different denominations in our city to work together for the greater good. One such example is the Mayor’s National Day of Prayer Breakfast which Mike started about four years ago. Church leaders from all denominations and local, state and federal leaders are invited to participate in a prayer breakfast the same day as the National Day of Prayer to pray for our city, state and country and to prepare the hearts of our church and civic leaders for the events of the day.

Thank you, Mike, for being the type of leader who leads by Christian example but more importantly, thank you for being the type of leader who believes in prayer. We need more leaders with conservative Christian principles. We need more leaders who believe in prayer. We need more leaders like Mike. Please join me in supporting Mike as our next state representative.

Mesquite

I am supporting Mike Anderson for state representative. Mike has lived in the Mesquite/Balch Springs area all his life. He knows the area and the people of Balch Springs. He knows what we need and what we want. Mike has been a friend of Balch Springs when he served as a member of the city council and mayor of Mesquite. Mike has helped Balch Springs as the mayor of Mesquite more then the last two state representatives we have had. Mike helped developers see the positive of our city and helped the Spring Ridge Addition be built. With that also came a new Mesquite elementary school in our city. As a city council member for the city of Balch Springs, I understand the dedication and time it takes and Mike Anderson has proven he has what it takes. I will be EARLY voting at Dunford Recreation Center to show my support for Mike Anderson as our next state representative.
