Mesquite: Elks Lodge honors Citizen of the Year
By Kenny Green, Staff Writer
The Mesquite Elks Lodge handed out their annual awards Feb. 19 during a dinner attended by a number of city dignitaries.
As he read from a letter he penned to the exalted ruler of the lodge, Paul Sullivan, Mayor John Monaco named Ginny Stuit as Elks Lodge Citizen of the Year.
Stuit received the award based on her volunteer work to enhance the community. She is an active member of the Mesquite Police Citizen’s Association, serving as a past president.
Stuit was president of Historic Mesquite, Inc. for six years, and she serves as a member of the city’s planning and zoning commission. She volunteers for numerous activities, including Christmas in the Park, that take place in the city throughout the year.
“The smile she carries on her face when she volunteers at these family-friendly events helps make the season brighter for so many,” Monaco said.
In addition to her work within the city, Stuit is currently the Elks Lodge civic activities chairperson and president of the women’s auxiliary. Monaco said that Stuit is also a staple at almost all of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce events.
Monaco read a proclamation making Feb. 19 Elks Citizen of the Year Ginny Stuit Day in Mesquite.
