Griffith finds right fit in Wesleyan

Published: Saturday, April 16, 2011 11:36 AM CDT
Basketball means the world to Plano Senior senior forward Jordan Griffith.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that competing at the next level has been a lifelong goal of hers.

“I’ve always known I wanted to play at the next level,” Griffith said. “Basketball is like my life. I love basketball.”

However, the chance to attend a school with a strong nursing program was also a key factor in the selection process leading up to Thursday’s signing.

“Some of the schools that offered me didn’t have my major,” Griffith said. “So I kind of ruled those off the list.”

The senior found a perfect fit in Oklahoma Wesleyan.

“[Wesleyan] has a really nice campus,” Griffith said. “And the coach there is great. It’s just a great fit overall.”

The leading rebounder on the Lady Wildcats this season, Griffith has shown a marked improvement throughout her time at Plano.

“She’s just a great player,” said Lynn Meger, Plano head coach. “She really carried us a lot this year. She has made major improvements in the last couple of years and it just shows you that hard work pays off.”

Meger dubbed Griffith one of the top players she has ever coached and said her commitment to Wesleyan should only inspire current and future Lady Wildcats to achieve similar goals during their time at Plano.

“Success breeds success,” Meger said. “It gives the younger players an opportunity to see what’s out there and see what they can accomplish if they work hard.”

For Griffith, Wednesday’s signing was the culmination of her varsity career and the start of her career with the Lady Eagles.

“I’m just at a loss of words right now,” Griffith said. “I’m really excited.”

Meger said Wednesday’s signing reinforces the success of the Plano athletic program.

“Scholarships are hard to get no matter what level it is,” she said. “This shows that all the programs we have are excelling in what they do.”

Griffith echoed the sentiments about her former team and current school.

“I think it’s a huge honor to come from Plano and say that I played at Plano,” she said.
