People who love to tour beautiful homes and gardens may be in for a treat this weekend.
The McKinney Garden Club will present its Garden & Home Tour at the following McKinney locations: 1113 Pecan Hollow Trail, 2601 Provine Rd., 523 Hunt St., 504 North Church St., 4294 Lonestar Cir., and 4488 County Road 408.
The tour will be preceded by an evening garden party from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the home of Shawn and Theresa Lane, at 4403 Shadywood in McKinney. Entertainment, food and drinks will be offered in a garden atmosphere.
"It would be fun to stop for lunch on the historic town square, which is right in the center of the tour," said Jill Alcantara, garden club member. "They could cap off their day with music and a glass of wine at the Wales Winery (on County Road 408)."
Debbie Finley, president of the McKinney Garden Club, said, "Our tour co-chairmen have discovered some wonderful treasures in McKinney and also expanded our boundaries into the New Hope community. In addition to beautiful gardens, you will find other new introductions this year, including wine making and beekeeping."
She said all homes on the tour are "garden treasures."
Combination tickets for the party and tour cost $35, and $15 for just the tour. Tickets are available beforehand from any member of the McKinney Garden Club, on the day of the tour at any of the locations or by going to www.mckinneygardenclub.org. Tickets are also available at either Calloway's Nursery in McKinney, at several locations around the downtown square, and in other stores around the city.
Tour participants must supply their own transportation.
Proceeds from the Garden & Home Tour go to support various projects in the city, such as the gardens at the Heard-Craig Museum, the garden at Finch Park and the Community Garden being planned in McKinney.
Also, the garden club will respond to requests for funding for gardens at schools.
In the past, projects funded by the garden club tour have included design contributions to landscaping along U.S. Highway 75 and State Highway 121, McKinney's Crape Myrtle Trails, Central Park Urban Gardens, Meditation Garden at Chestnut Square, School House Garden & Chapel Garden, Collin County SPCA Garden, Heard-Craig House Memorial Garden, Katie's Garden, Jane Douglas Memorial Japanese Maple Tree, McKinney Performing Arts Center and the Lovejoy Memorial Clover Leaf Flower Bed at Historic Finch Park.
The McKinney Garden Club has offered the tour every other year for the past 10 years.
