Four dead in overnight car accident

MESQUITE--Mesquite Police are continuing to investigate a crash on Interstate Highway 20 late Wednesday night that left four dead.

The crash occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on May 30 in the eastbound lanes of IH 20, just east of FM 740 in Mesquite. A 2005 Ford pickup traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of IH 20 collided head-on with a GMC Acadia that was traveling eastbound on IH 20.

The driver of the Ford pickup, identified as Krystle Carranza, 27, of Lindale, TX died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The three children inside the Ford pickup were also killed.

The driver of the GMC Acadia has been identified as Fred Ulysses Hammett, Jr., 70, of Ramona, California.

Mesquite Police are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.
