A large Fourth of July parade is quickly shaping up, with 24 groups or organizations already registered, including one that expects to have about 100 motorcycles.

Keith Palmer, president of the McKinney Guardians of Grace, said the goal this year is to have at least that many motorcycles in the parade. He said about 40 members of Guardians of Grace, a Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA) chapter, will be in the parade, along with motorcycle riders from other area CMA chapters.

He said this will be the third year Guardians of Grace will be in the annual parade. While the number of motorcyclists in the parade has grown each year, so far they have fallen short of the century mark.

But last year there were about 90 CMA riders, and Palmer said efforts are being made to ensure there are at least 100 in this year's parade.

About four years ago, Kirk "Woody" Stephans rode as a single biker in McKinney's Fourth of July parade. He has since been joined each year by scores of other CMA bikers.

Thomas Osburn, assistant principal at Lacy Elementary School in Princeton, had been in a CMA group in Greenville before moving to Collin County. He worked with others to help form the McKinney Guardians of Grace.

Morning Maniacs, based in Melissa, has also registered to be in the parade. The organization, founded in 2006, has a large number of classic cars, trucks and motorcycles that are expected to be in the parade.

Others that have registered for the parade so far include Civil Air Patrol (Thunderbolt), Cub Scout Pack 294, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moms Club of McKinney, Art Club of McKinney, Young Actors Guild, Cub Scout Pack 303, Cub Scout Pack 531, Nissan of McKinney, U.S. Navy, the Trinity Trail Preservation Association and Town Square Buzz.
