Thursday's board of directors meeting of The Arts Center of North Texas marked the end of an era for the 10-year-old project.
Mary Vail-Grube, who has served as the project's interim executive director since Mike Simpson stepped down in February, officially announced her resignation at the meeting. Vail-Grube began working with the organization in July 2004 and was its first paid employee.
"It has been such an honor and a pleasure to work with all of the board members over the years," Vail-Grube said. "I am sad to be leaving because we haven't accomplished our goals, but I feel there is hope that there will be a new plan and a new organization."
Board President Bobby Baggett said the organization will continue to work with the city of Allen, which provides office space for the Arts Center, while also lending its staff to the organization for certain tasks including communication responsibilities. He said while there are not many tasks remaining until the three owner cities give direction regarding the future of the project, he is sure Allen staff members will be up to the task.
