Watermelon + 5K run = Refreshing Summer Fun

It’s the perfect equation for invigorating outdoor summer excitement.

An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but it’s just not as much fun as eating a huge slice of watermelon. What better place to get a big juicy watermelon and other fresh fruit than your local farmers market? The team at Run On! considers this combination to be the perfect recipe for fun in the sun for the entire family. Run On!, which was founded in 1995, is a locally owned running specialty retailer which carries shoes, apparel and accessories for running, walking and active lifestyles. The company not only sponsors events that benefit local non-profit organizations, but they also try to support local businesses that encourage healthy living such as our Dallas area farmers.

The Melon Dash 5K is yet another marvelous piece of the Run Project race series which benefits local causes in the DFW area. The premise behind the Run Project series, brought to you by Run On!, is sponsoring local races which benefit local causes…Run Local, Give Local. A portion of the proceeds from the Melon Dash 5K will be given to support local organizations such as the North Texas Cat Rescue, who are committed to the humane and compassionate treatment of cats. This event is the highlight of late summer racing but it is also the beginning of a fun filled day with family, friends and other devoted runners from all around.

The Melon Dash 5k is located at the Chestnut Square Farmers Market in downtown McKinney Texas. The event will be held on Saturday, August 4th opening at 7:00am and will showcase the charm of McKinney including its shady historic district streets. The day begins with a Fun Run for the kiddos at 7:45am which is followed by the exhilarating 5K race at 8:15am for the older more competitive kids-at-heart. At the conclusion of the race, runners will enjoy a sponsor village packed with refreshments including a beer garden. Participants will have the opportunity to stroll through Farmers Market with their custom Melon Dash reusable shopping bag.
