Bowled Over Fur a Good Cause

Yahoo Sister's Scarlett Ladies Bowling Team

(McKinney, TX, August 10, 2012)  – The League of Animal Protectors first annual Strikes for Strays Bowling and Silent Auction event, held at Allen Bowl on July 29th, can be officially declared a howling success! Thanks to the tireless efforts of Event Coordinator, J’Anna Mann and boyfriend, David Arnold, a.k.a. the “dynamic duo.”

Event sponsorship’s by the Petco Foundation, Southwest Airlines and Microsoft along with the generous assistance of local businesses and restaurants set all the pins in place, but it was the outpouring of public support that guaranteed the perfect game. “For a first annual event, I can honestly say that it exceeded all of our expectations,” said Event Coordinator and Board Member, J’Anna Mann. “The lanes were packed and everyone seemed to be having a great time. We can’t wait to see what next year has in store for us.” Some teams sported matching T-shirts and hats; colorful team names such as Fifty Shades of Strays, Turkey Baggers and the Holy Bowlers captured the playful spirit of the event. Yet, things got a little more serious at the silent auction tables as long lines of potential bidders carefully eyed tables laden with well over a hundred items –deciding on whether or not to take the plunge.

Between bowling everything from strikes to gutter balls, attendees enjoyed donations of Starbuck’s coffee and an assortment of gourmet desserts from Corner Bakery, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Society Bakery, but a visit from Allen City Councilwoman, Robin Sedlacek was the icing on the cake! “It really meant a lot to all the LAP volunteers and the employee’s of Allen Bowl to have Ms. Sedlacek spend time with us,” stated Wendy Melton, Executive Director of the League of Animal Protectors.

After the scores were tallied, the awards handed out, and the balloons and banners taken down, Ms. Mann reflected on the success of the event. “As everyone in the animal rescue community knows, it takes a village to make a difference in the lives of animals in need. We had a wonderful village of people with us today.” Perhaps to underscore the accuracy of her statement was the support of fellow animal rescue group, Garland Pawsibilites, who sponsored two teams, participated in the 50/50 raffle and made a generous donation to the event.

The League of Animal Protectors is an all volunteer, 501 (c) (3) non-profit public charity. They rescue, rehabilitate and re-home needy animals in the Dallas area; most of their funding is used for veterinary care. For more information on their organization, please visit:
