Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD prepares for back to school

Summer is coming to an end and as kids dig their heels in the dirt, parents roll up their sleeves and begin the back-to-school shopping. For Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, faculty and staff have a lot of new, exciting things to look forward to.
Teachers report back on Aug. 20 while students will begin this new school year on Aug. 27. In 2009, according to the U.S. Census, there were 7.2 million teachers in the United States, and this year C-FB ISD is welcoming about 200 new teachers to the district.
"In C-FB, our principals and support staff are back working feverishly to prepare for a great new year," said Angela Shelley, spokeswoman for C-FBISD. "We are extremely excited about what this year holds in store. Beginning a new school year is like opening a present on your birthday. The excitement of a new year is contagious."
R. L. Turner High School will launch a new initiative this year moving into four "colleges". The colleges will act as small learning communities enabling teachers and staff to have more one on one contact with students, which the school hopes will result in an improved learning environment. Students will also enjoy taking elective and core classes aligned with their interests and talents.
Parents and students can find all the information for back to school at www.cfbisd.edu/back. The webpage is a one-stop shop with everything a parent needs to begin the year -- school supply lists, calendars, schedule pickup information and more, Shelley said.
