Exide plant layoffs begin Nov. 30: 120 employees expected to be laid off
By Anthony Tosie, atosie@starlocalnews.com
Exide Technologies has informed 120 employees at its lead-acid battery recycling plant in Frisco that it will begin layoffs Nov. 30.
David McKercher, the plant's manager, notified the Texas Workforce Commission of the layoffs in a letter dated Sept. 18.
The news comes as Exide is required to cease operations at its Frisco plant as a result of a deal it reached with the city in May.
As part of the deal, the Frisco Economic Development Corporation and Frisco Community Development Corporation will purchase 180 acres of land surrounding the plant from Exide for $45 million, while the company will retain 80 acres of land.
The Frisco Enterprise has contacted Exide Technologies requesting comment. This article will be updated if and when comments are received.
