Fairview House on the National Solar Home Tour

The Westbrook House in Fairview will be featured during the National Tour of Solar Homes on Saturday, Oct. 6th. The Westbrooks will give free group tours about every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.
The house won the 1996 NAHB Energy Value Housing Award for Innovative Design.
The energy and resource efficient house includes the following features:
• Passive solar design
• Structural insulated panels
• Ground source heat pump
• Solar water heating
• Desiccant wheel heat exchanger
• 3,200-gallon rain water collection system
• 2.4-kilowatt wind turbine
The home's 16-year average electric bill is $87 per month, which is about 1/3 that of a local similar sized home. Payback was one month.
