Fairview town council appoints new member, councilmember Erickson resigns after 21 years

The Fairview Town Council formally accepted the resignation of councilmember Carolyn Sommers Erickson and filled the newly vacant seat at their regular meeting on October 9.
The council unanimously approved the appointment of John Fraser to fill the vacant seat.
Erickson was the longest-serving member of the town council, first taking office in 1991. She had begun her eleventh term on the council in May 2011.
"(Erickson) has served honorably and well as a councilmember of the town of Fairview for almost 22 years," Mayor Sim Israeloff said. "We are really going to miss her, her advice, her counsel and her history with the town. I cannot say enough about what Carolyn Sommers Erickson has done for the town for a long number of years."
Israeloff also said that more formal recognition of Erickson's service will be planned at a later date.
Under the Fairview town charter, in the event a council position becomes vacant during the term, it is the obligation of the council to appoint a new council member to fill the vacancy until the next regular election.
Fraser, who spent several years on the council previously, as well as the Planning and Zoning Commission, was nominated by councilmember Jim Cunningham.
"John has spent a lot of years with this town," Cunningham said. "I think for the remaining months of Carolyn's term he will be a great fill-in for us."
