Robert (Bob) Matern of Lucas, Texas, met with the Lord on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.
Born to Rudolph Albert Matern and Myrtle Caroline Trunk Matern on October 10, 1944, Bob earned his undergraduate and MBA from University of Michigan (Go BLUE!).
Following college, Bob moved to Texas, with his new wife, Tracy, and first born daughter, Debbie, to work for Touche, Ross, Bailey & Smart. He then worked for Berkeley Insurance Group before starting his own CPA business in Plano, Texas. He then returned to and retired from Berkeley Insurance.
Bob and his family moved to Murphy, Texas in 1976, where he enjoyed volunteering for the Murphy Volunteer Fire Department and serving as Mayor Pro-tem for the City of Murphy.
Enjoying retirement, Bob was an avid wood turner and he loved sharing his life with his family. He was a member of Southwest Association of Turners, Dallas Area Wood Turners and Hunt County Wood Turners and was a lifetime conservative libertarian that believed in individual responsibility.
Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Tracy King Matern, daughters Deborah Laraine Matern and Tobie Lynn Matern Carcano, son-in-law Javier Carcano, grandson Brent Russell Matern, granddaughters Rebecca Tracy Carcano and Arianna Laraine Carcano and beloved dog and son, Murphy.
Honoring Bob's wishes against a service, a gathering of friends and family will be held on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, Bob has requested donations to Selwyn College Preparatory School in Denton, Texas. Donations can be mailed to: Northstar Bank, c/o Selwyn School, 400 North Carroll Blvd., Denton, Texas 76201.
