The man police dubbed the "Handsome Guy Bandit" due to the mask he wore during bank robberies has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison.
Richardson resident Steven Ray Milam, 45, pleaded guilty to robbing 11 banks, including two in Plano. He received his sentence Monday from U.S. District Judge Sam Lindsay.
He was arrested in January in Mississippi after leading local law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase that ended with one of his rear tires being shot out.
Milam's final robbery occurred in Richardson on Dec. 31, 2011. After leaving the BBVA Compass Bank, Milam fired three bullets at police officers before fleeing the scene. He left behind his mask, as well as the money from the robbery and other evidence that allowed police to make a positive identification.
Under his plea agreement, Milam could have received up to life in prison. This will not be the first time Milam has been to prison. In 2005 Milam was sentenced to two years in prison for robbing a Dallas Wells Fargo Bank.
