WHAT: Allen ISD’s Marion Elementary School celebrates the receipt of a $25,000 grant from Dairy MAX and Fuel Up to Play 60. The school received the grant funds to create an interactive lunchroom experience and enhance physical activity programs, as a result of successfully completing three Fuel Up to Play 60 challenges during the 2011-2012 year. Former Dallas Cowboy Jay Novacek will join Allen ISD Assistant Superintendent Dr. Maroba Zoeller and representatives from the Cooper Institute on October 26th in an interactive celebration of the school’s commitment to health.
Students from Marion Elementary will engage in a variety of physical challenges with Novacek, and then a portion of the new cafeteria display will be unveiled. Students from Allen High School’s culinary program will showcase their knowledge by teaching younger students how to make smoothies.
Schools across North Texas are invited to learn about participation in Fuel Up To Play 60, a program that encourages youth to consume nutrient-rich foods (low-fat and fat-free dairy, fruits, vegetables and whole grains) and achieve 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
