Every year, Lewisville ISD honors United States veterans who have served the country with a Veterans Day breakfast and ceremony.
As part of this year's ceremony, Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) students from across the district spoke to honor veterans.
"When I think of Veterans Day, I think of my father, who served in the United States Navy, and my grandfather who was enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War," said Asha Bynum, LHS student and Navy JROTC Cadet Lieutenant Commander. "I believe we celebrate Veterans Day not only to honor those like my father and grandfather, but also to remember those like my grandfather's best friend who will never know his home again...To have one day to focus solely on those who have been so selfless is a tiny gift of gratitude from the civilian world in comparison to unending acts of courage these men and women are expected to perform."
LISD takes pride in continuously involving its community, staff and students in events like Veterans Day as a way to honor and thank the community for supporting our students and schools.
"To all personnel, enlisted and officer, Army, Navy, Marine and Air Force, active duty, reserves and especially to those who are not longer with us, thank you for being my hero," Bynum said.
