Coach named to Massachusetts Hall of Fame
Dick Licare of Allen has been elected to the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. He will be inducted in a ceremony at Holy Cross College on Nov. 18.
Licare coached Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Mass., for 27 years, compiling a 447-154 record that included one MIAA state championship in 1999. His teams also won two Eastern MIAA titles.
Licare is employed at Keller Williams Realty in Allen, where he lives with his wife, Deborah, and their four children: Leanna, Lizzie, Sarah Jane and Charlie.
Buster Keaton Film Festival
This is your rare opportunity to experience the full grandeur of the silent film era. The Allen Public Library's free Buster Keaton Silent Film Festival comes complete with a live theatrical organ accompaniment, once considered an integral part of the cinematic experience.
Movies for the Buster Keaton Silent Film Festival will be shown at 7 p.m. every Tuesday in November and will include historical-style organ performances by the esteemed organist Benjamin Kolodziej, who composed the original scores for this event.
In addition, each movie will be introduced by a noted film historian. A discussion will follow after the screening.
The film lineup is as follows:
Nov. 6 - The Playhouse, 1921 (22 min) and Sherlock Jr., 1924 (44 min). Presented Dr. Carolyn Perry, professor of Humanities and Film History at Collin College. She has been the film history professor at the college since 2006 and is also Collin College's Auteur Film Series director.
Nov. 13 - Cops, 1922 (18 min) and Steamboat Bill, Jr., 1928 (70 min). Presented by Dr. Diana C. Gingo, professor of English at Collin College and a panelist in the College's Auteur Film Series.
Nov. 20 - One Week, 1920 (19 min) and The Navigator, 1924 (59 min). Presented by Jim Caldwell, adjunct professor on audio acquisition in the Cinema/Television Department of the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU.
Nov. 27 - The General, 1926 (75 min). Presented by Allen Public Library Director Jeff Timbs, a film enthusiast since childhood who developed a deep appreciation for the visual poetry of images moving without words.
The theater organ is provided by the North Texas Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society.

FFA hosting Halloween festivities
Allen FFA students will be hosting Trunk or Treat for the community from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. The event will be next to the performing arts center at Allen High School, outside in front of K Hall.

Camp out and enjoy storytelling
Families are invited to Joe Farmer Recreation Center to camp out under the stars and enjoy an evening full of fun with storytelling and other camp traditions. The annual Family Night Camp Out & Movie is this weekend. There is still room to register. Cast your ballots
Early voting for the Nov. 6 General Election began on Monday and runs through Friday, Nov. 2. During this election, Collin County registered voters can cast ballots at any Collin County polling location. Visit Collin County's website for full information including early voting locations, Election Day voting locations and sample ballots.
Heritage Guild
Allen Heritage Guild and Like-Minded Friends present Casey Sledge and Jeannie Clark Fisher at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Allen Train Depot Museum, 100 E. Main. Sledge is a singer/songwriter who is a member of the Celtic group "October Country." He has played at the North Texas Irish Festival, along with sci-fi conventions and festivals throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Singing about moors and mountains, myths, legends and fantasy, his songs remind listeners of forgotten times and places. Sledge's songs have been performed by Ravens, Hawke of the Bedlam Bards and played (during sound check) at a Worldcon. His band, October Country, was Interfilk's Guest of Honor at Seattle's "Confilkt 3" in January 2010.
Jeannie Clark Fisher opened for Bruce Springsteen and performed at Red Bank Coffeehouse and the Upstage in Asbury Park. A move to Texas introduced her to country music, dance bands and piano bar gigs. Fisher's heartfelt songs are about relationships, issues and experiences.
Her goals are to showcase local singers/songwriters and bands and facilitate a gathering place for people who enjoy the coffeehouse arts atmosphere.
She will be joined by members of the Allen Folk Music Society, featuring Jim Longley on harmonica, Holly Barr playing banjo, Kim Vincent on guitar and Monique Vincent, vocals.
