Plano police detectives have arrested a McKinney man in connection with the burglaries of two Petland stores earlier this month.
Darrell Wayne Ramirez, 27, was arrested Monday and has been charged with one count of burglary of a building. He is being held in the Collin County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
"As people can see in the video, there were two people involved in the burglaries and we have only arrested one person," said Officer David Tilley, Plano PD spokesman. "We are still trying to determine who the second suspect is."
The nine dogs stolen from the Frisco and Plano stores were all between 9 and 10 months old. The dogs a dachshund, a beagle, a shih tzu, three English bulldogs, a soft-coated Wheaten terrier, a shih-poo (shih tzu and poodle cross) and a Boglen terrier (beagle and Boston terrier cross).
Tilley said the department is hopeful the dogs will be returned and added that the new owners will not face charges if they did not know the dogs were stolen at the time of the purchase. All the dogs have microchips embedded under their skin and will turn up as stolen if the chips are scanned by a veterinarian.
"If people received a puppy after Oct. 8, we are asking them to take them to a veterinarian to get scanned to see if they are stolen," Tilley said.
Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to call Plano PD at 972-941-2148.
