Celina dominates Gunter
After a second-place finish at the state tournament last season, the Lady Bobcats are looking for a return trip to Austin in 2012.
Celina’s quest is off to a quick start after dismantling Gunter, 64-31, on Tuesday to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Junior Sarah Cantu led all players in the game with 16 points while three other Lady Bobcats finished in double figures.
It was all Celina from the early going, as the Lady Bobcats cruised to a 45-12 lead at the break before taking their foot off the gas in the second half. The team will return to action Tuesday night at Prosper with a 6:15 p.m. contest.
State VB Tourney on TV
For those that can’t make it to the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland to watch Lovejoy compete in the Class 4A State Volleyball Tournament, all matches from the multi-class UIL event will be broadcast live.
The matches will air on Time Warner Cable’s SportsChannel and FoxSportsSouthwest.com.
Play-by-play announcer Lincoln Rose will be joined by former Texas high school volleyball coaches Brenda Kitten of Hereford and Patty Dominguez of Monahans to call the action.
Lovejoy faces Cedar Park in the semis at 7 p.m. Thursday with the winner advancing to Saturday’s 4:30 p.m. final.
MCA Football Playoff Info
The McKinney Christian Academy football team plays Bay Area Christian in their playoff opener. The game is Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Bronco Field (4800 W. Main Street) in League City.

Landry Award nominations
For the third straight year, North Texas GMC Dealers will present the area’s top high school football player with The Landry Award.
The honor recognizes the Metroplex’s top high school player. The recipient will be chosen by a voting panel of former coaches and players, media members and local leaders. The Landry Award program will also recognize the Whataburger All-North Texas Team.

Five finalists will be announced in November with 2012’s official winner named Dec. 6 at a ceremony at the Communities Foundation of Texas.
