A McKinney man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison for a July 2011 rape.

Jason Latroy Leonard, 35, and an acquaintance met the victim for the first time July 11, 2011 at the victim's home. Leonard returned to her home two days later to help with things around the house while her husband was out of town.

After he helped her for a few hours, Leonard brought up sex, but the victim said she didn't want to have sex and asked him to leave, according to a Collin County District Attorney's office release.

That's when Leonard brutally assaulted the victim. He punched her in the face, knocked her to the ground and dragged her by her hair to the kitchen where he sexually assaulted her three times at knifepoint. Leonard threatened to hurt the victim's children, who were asleep in the house at the time, if she told anyone, the release stated.

After Leonard ahd left, the victim called a friend and sought medical treatment. McKinney police began their investigation while speaking to her at the hospital. She gave a detailed description of Leonard, picked him out of a photo line-up, and told police he used his cell phone to record her in the shower and portions of the rape.

The next day, McKinney police Detective Randy Norton obtained an arrest warrant for Leonard, and with help from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, took Leonard into custody and recovered his cell phone. A forensic examination of the phone by the U. S. Secret Service revealed deleted videos of the victim showering and of the rape.

During the trial's punishment phase, the jury learned of Leonard's previous rape conviction and ensuing time in prison. He was released from prison in December 2009, and had been living in McKinney as a registered sex offender until last year's offense.

Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Zeke Fortenberry and Lisa King, with the help of Investigator Mike Bennett, prosecuted the case. Judge Mark Rusch presided.
