Saturday in Glen Rose, Flower Mound's volleyball team had an opportunity to do something it had never accomplished before: reach the third round of the playoffs.
The Lady Jaguars took on Copperas Cove in the area round at Glen Rose ISD Tiger Arena (results not available as of press time) after defeating L.D. Bell Tuesday in the bi-district round (25-10, 25-15, 25-16).
"We played awesome against L.D. Bell," said Marci Brinkman, Flower Mound head coach. "We were confident going in and were consistent and went out there and took care of business. Bell put up a fight and made us work at times, but the girls stepped up when they needed to."
Jordan Anderson paced the Flower Mound attack with 15 kills and 11 digs, while Briana Allmon had 11 kills and four blocks. Cluff had four blocks as well to go with six kills.
"We had nine blocks as a team, which was great for three games," Brinkman said. "And we did a good job of passing the ball. We were able to get our middles going early, too, and that opened things up for our outside hitters. We accomplished everything we were looking to do."
If Flower Mound wins, it will advance to the regional quarterfinals to face Colleyville Heritage, which defeated Mansfield in straight sets Friday. A win over the Lady Panthers would advance the Lady Jaguars to the regional tournament, which is slated to take place at Tiger Arena in Glen Rose.
"That was part of the plan," Brinkman said. "If we make it that far, we'll play in an atmosphere that we are familiar with."
