One swing of a hammer changes lives!

Flower Mound Softball

There is a house afire over in Douglas Place in Plano, TX but that is a great thing. The searing energy comes from dedicated volunteers who come each week to complete a single-family house for Habitat for Humanity.  Last weekend, players from the Flower Mound Lady Jaguar softball team spent the weekend putting up doors, installing baseboards and painting the Habitat Home to make the house ready for a new family.

Taylor Nabors, a jag senior, has long been a volunteer in many of the jaguar’s service initiatives. “Knowing that we are making a difference in someone’s life is worth getting up at 7:00 AM on Saturday, no better way to start the weekend”, said Nabors. Being a part of the project is just one way that the Lady Jags are able to give back to the community. While they labored on the house, they gained valuable job skills and continue to learn how to work effectively as part of a team.  “This softball program in known for giving back and thrives on making a difference in others lives.  These players had an opportunity to many other “teenage” things this weekend, but choose to be difference makers,” said Nesa Grider booster club president.

The Lady Jags along with another fellow select team will build again December 1st expecting the house to be done by end of year.  There is a specific timetable; rain shine, snow or sleet the building continues to ensure that the family can take occupancy as scheduled.  As a volunteer on many of the Lady Jag projects, player Brittany Pint said she “especially was impacted by the experience.  I took pride that we were as a team on this project and already want to help on another Habitat house.”

The Lady Jaguars are engaged in a number of community service projects; collection of coats for the DCFOF, food drive, For Love of Kids and others.  If you are interested in supporting the Lady Jaguars efforts to “change a girl, change a family. change the community, please contact ngrider@ppsba.
