City manager honored for 25 years of service

Frisco City Manager George A. Purefoy's seen Frisco grow from about 5,000 residents to nearly 130,000. In fact, he's responsible for much of that growth.
At a regular city council meeting on Wednesday, the city honored Purefoy for his 25 years of service and named November "George A. Purefoy Month." Purefoy officially became the city's first -- and, so far, only -- city manager on Nov. 1, 1987.
After showing Purefoy a video commemorating his service thus far, Mayor Maher Maso presented the city manager with a proclamation thanking him for his service.
Purefoy's wife, Deborah, said seeing Frisco grow over the years has been one of the best aspects of her husband's job.
"It's been an absolute blessing to us -- we love Frisco," she said. "It's grown gracefully, and the people are just awesome. They make the city what it is today. We thank you for letting us stay and raise our child."
The couple's daughter, Christal, said seeing Stonebriar Centre Mall open was a highlight of her time in the city with her father.
"There's so many [great memories], but I would say the opening of the mall," she said when asked of her favorite moment in the city. "Just hearing about that dream when I was a little child from my dad and city council members. Being with my dad on that day was the greatest day in Frisco for me."
For Purefoy, 25 years of service was something he never expected when he first stepped foot in the city.
"It's been a city manager's dream come true to be here this long -- it's not the normal tenure," Purefoy said. "I couldn't ask for any more in a career than to be in a place like this."
