Note-ably North Texas Chorus celebrates the Holidays!

Note-ably North Texas Chorus

Published: Monday, November 26, 2012 3:26 PM CST
Barbershop singing is for the brave at heart! Singing tight, four-part harmony, a cappella is challenging and rewarding. Much of the fun is contributing your sound to the music as we strive for accuracy and energized, straight vocal tone to ring chords. Barbershop chord progressions move swiftly and intentionally through dissonant chords that resolve into strong chords while maintaining overtones. Creating overtones and internal harmonics from accurate singing of chords are what make the Barbershop sound so full and exciting.

The Barbershop sound often generates physical and emotional responses from the singers and listeners, alike. "It's exhilarating!" says Director Melissa Purdin. "Audience members will tell us how they got chills or hair stood up on their arms during our performances! And at rehearsals, we'll sing a song or work a section of a tune, and the ladies break out in gleeful gasps, laughter and smiles from the fun and joy that ringing chords brings!" NNT ladies often speak of how they look forward to Thursday nights, because they are invigorated by the physicality of singing and the positive energy of the group.

"Ladies who love to sing and are willing to work and celebrate with a group should come and see!" Note-Ably North Texas Chorus rehearses on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Allen. "We do have some Thursday night Christmas performances and Events in December, so be sure to check our website and contacts us before coming!" Consider joining us for our Contest Season (January through March). The 2013 rehearsals will begin Thursday, Jan. 3. www.nntchorus.org
