The 6th annual Family Fright Night, a Halloween camp out, is rapidly approaching. So grab your kids, costumes and camp equipment and head out to Stewart Creek Park for some Halloween hayrides and a family friendly holiday event.
This event, which will be held beginning at 4 p.m. on Oct. 27, has limited enrollment and fills up quickly - so quickly, in fact, that recreation manager David Swain said it sold out within one week.
"Family Fright Night was started in 2007 as a way to get families out and enjoying nature while having a fun time celebrating the Halloween season," said Swain, recreation manager for the city. "We have sold out this event every year. This year it took just over a week to sell out. Needless to say, this is one of our most popular special events of the year.
The event boasts a hay ride, costume contest, scream contest, haunted trail, trick-or-treating, smores around the campfire, spooky movie and more.
"We limit this event to about 400 people, which includes about 75 camp sites," Swain said. "I think more than the city feeling that this event is important, the participants have expressed to us how important they feel the event is by continuing to participate. We have many families who have come to the event every year since it began."
For those that didn't get a chance to register for this event, the city still has other ways to celebrate the spooky night.
The Lakeside Community Theatre's haunted house, the Fear Factory Insanitaruim, has gotten rave reviews and is open every weekend beginning at 8 p.m. until Nov. 3.
Teens can take a peek at a creepy movie while in costume at the Library on Oct. 27. The library will be showing The Ring at 6:30 p.m.
Trunk or Treat will be taking place on Halloween night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hawaiian Falls, located at 4400 Paige Road. It is sponsored by Horizons Church, Calvary Christian Center, Hawaiian Falls, First Methodist, Christ Community, Bent Tree of The Colony, First Baptist, Friendship Baptist and PureGroup.
