Farmerette Fun Run to be held


The second annual Farmerette Frightful 5K Fun Run, sponsored by Raising Cain's Chicken Fingers, will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 starting outside Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church St. Prizes will be given for the top-finishing man, woman, student and child. Sponsors will give away prizes at the event, as well. Marcus debate team shines

The Marcus debate team found success at the Denton Guyer debate last weekend. In Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate, Lyndie Ho advanced to the quarterfinals round, and Daniel Becker advanced to the semifinals round. Both students are now qualified for the TFA State Debate Tournament in March.

In Public Forum Debate, partners Amani Mahavadi and Elise Anderson advanced to the quarterfinals round, and Andres Venegas and Michael Delgado made it to the final round and placed second in the tournament.

Also, the debate program has been recognized by the National Forensic League (NFL) as an official "100 Club" school chapter.

Marcus earned this status by achieving 100 degrees or more in the last year, placing it in the top 10 percent of all NFL chapters nationwide. Degrees are earned by students and chapters based on participation and success in debate tournaments and district and national competitions.

FMHS chorale to perform

Haydn's "Mass in the Time of War," featuring the Flower Mound High School Jaguar Chorale, the Keller Central HS Chamber Singers, a full professional orchestra and conductor Dr. Jerry Blackstone from the University of Michigan, will be performed at 2 p.m. on Oct. 27 in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church, 422 Church Street, Grapevine.

"Mass in the Time of War" is one of Franz Joseph Haydn's best known and most loved works, written as a spirited and thoughtful response to troubled times. Tickets can be purchased on-line at http://haydn.brownpapertickets.com/ and are $10 for adults, and $5 for students, plus a small service charge.

LHS midnight madness set

The LHS basketball booster club will host its second annual Midnight Madness Basketball extravaganza beginning at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in the LHS arena. During the event, meet the 2012-13 Fighting Farmer and Lady Farmer basketball teams. Entertainment will include a student vs. faculty basketball game, a chance to challenge Coach MeGown to a three-point shootout or go one-on-one with Coach Elam. Performances by the LHS cheerleaders, Farmerettes and more. Admission is $3.

LISD hosts community night

Marcus and Lewisville High School FFA invites the community to attend the LISD Chester Boyd Agriculture (Ag) Center Community Night from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29. The Ag Center is located north of Business 121 on Fish Hatchery Road in Lewisville

LHS Halloween carnival set

LHS will host its annual Halloween Carnival from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in the LHS cafeteria and gyms.

LHS Baseball Booster Club craft show scheduled

LHS' Baseball Booster Club will hold its 18th annual Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3 in the cafeteria at LHS Harmon campus, 1250 West Round Grove Road. For information email lhscraftshow@yahoo.com.

Downing spaghetti dinner

Downing Middle School will host a spaghetti dinner from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the school.

The dinner includes: spaghetti with choice of sauce, salad, bread and dessert. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students, seniors and teachers.

College Notes

Howard Payne University

Flower Mound's Hannah Hicks has been nominated for Homecoming Princess at Howard Payne University.

Hicks is the daughter of Gary and Lynn Hicks. She is a junior exercise and sport science major and is involved in HPU volleyball.

Hicks will be honored along with the other members of the Homecoming Court during HPU's homecoming convocation at 2 p.m. Friday in the Mims Auditorium. She will also be featured in the homecoming parade and football game on Saturday.

Georgia Tech

Kevin Dietze of Flower Mound earned the distinction of Faculty Honors for the summer of 2012 at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Undergraduate students earning a 4.00 academic average for the semester gain the distinction of Faculty Honors at Georgia Tech.

Kansas State

George David Ammerman of Flower Mound earned his Bachelor of Arts degree following the summer semester at Kansas State University.

Savannah College of Art and Design

Richard Adams of Flower Mound was named to the dean's list at the Savannah College of Art and Design for summer quarter 2012.

Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the dean's list. Adams is seeking a BFA degree in sound design.
