On Monday, the Allen Professional Firefighters Association (AFFA) hosted a ceremony in honor of the Remembrance Rescue Project at Allen Fire Station No. 5. Speakers included Allen Mayor Stephen Terrell, U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson, Allen Fire Chief Bill Hawley, Remembrance Rescue Project Founder Chris Gantz, AFFA President Jeremy Painkin and FDNY 9/11 family member Joe Luccioni.

The Remembrance Rescue Project was created by firefighters to preserve retired fire apparatus utilized at the World Trade Center site on 9/11. The Project works with fire departments across the country to host an apparatus and facilitate 9/11 educational programming, memorials and remembrance events. The Project strives to keep the memories alive of those lost on 9/11 and all firefighters killed in the line of duty every year.

The city of Allen is serving as a host site for Rescue Truck 4 and all activities are organized through AFFA volunteers. It has been viewed by hundreds of thousands of people in the Dallas area during its limited visit.
