Connecticut shooting - a tragedy beyond repair

Dear Editor,

Anguish. Grief. Pain. These are some of the feelings many parents are feeling right now. As we all know, on Friday December 14th, the biggest primary school shooting in American history took place, beating the Columbine school shooting in 1999.

But this new "high score" of 27 is nothing to be proud of. A disturbed man entered Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut, and ripped the lives of 20 innocent first-graders, and seven adults.

As a young Muslim girl, this kind of violence brings my absolute sympathy towards the victims and families. The Qur'an holds life sacred, and teaches us that to kill one person is equal to killing all of humanity.

As Muslims and as Americans we pray for our nation to unite during this time of indescribable pain.
