There was not much separation in the 11-5A football race this season.
Several teams had realistic dreams of competing for the district championship and every team with the exception of North Garland was alive in the playoff race until the final week of the season.
That balance across the board was evident on the 11-5A all-district team, as well, with the honors spread out amongst the teams.
Sachse and Rowlett each had one major award winner, with the Mustangs' Devine Ozigbo and the Eagles' Jerek Capdeville sharing co-sophomores of the year.
Ozigbo picked up steam as the year progressed, playing a bigger and bigger role in Sachse's explosive offense.
By season's end, he had amassed 150 carries for 802 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground, while adding 20 catches for 232 yards and two scores.
Ozigbo was one of seven Mustangs named to the first team, with six more teammates being tabbed on the second team after Sachse posted a school-best 8-3 record and advanced to the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Capdeville also showed steady progress from the opening kick through the final whistle. The defensive back finished among the team leaders with 62 tackles and added four pass breakups, three forced fumbles and a blocked kick.
Capdeville joined eight other Eagles on the first team after the team extended its school record streak of playoff appearances to eight seasons in a row.
The other major award winners in 11-5A were from the other two playoff teams--Garland and South Garland.
Colonel running back Marquel McNac was named the district's most valuable player, while defensive tackle Charles Walker was honored as the defensive MVP.
The Owls' versatile Ja'Taveon Green, who played wide receiver, running back and quarterback at times this season, was named 11-5A offensive most valuable player.
Garland's Jeff Jordan, who turned a 0-4 start into a perfect run to the district championship, was named co-coach of the year along with South Garland's Mark Cox.
Here is a look at the other Rowlett and Sachse players selected to the all-district first team:
