Celina has no immediate plans to spray insect repellant

The Prosper town council voted to opt in to aerial spraying for mosquitoes by the Denton County Health Department to prevent West Nile Virus.
Spraying took place August 30 and 31 over the western portion of Prosper.
Most of the western third of Prosper is in Denton County, and only that portion of the town was sprayed.
Other towns that opted in to being sprayed for mosquitoes include Aubrey, town of Copper Canyon, Corral City, town of Crossroads, town of Dish, town of Double Oak, town of Flower Mound, Hackberry, Haslet, Hickory Creek, Highland Village, Justin, Krugerville, Krum, Lake Dallas, Lakewood Village, Lewisville, Lincoln Park, town of Northlake, Oak Point, Pilot Point, Ponder, Providence Village, Roanoke, Sanger, Sandy Shores, Southlake, town of Trophy Club, town of Westlake.
Cities and towns that opted out of the spraying include Argyle, Bartonville, Corinth, Denton, Fort Worth, Frisco, Hebron, Little Elm, Plano and The Colony.
Aerial spraying is considered to be an effective and safe way to kill adult mosquitoes in large, densely populated areas. The pesticide is approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and is safe for humans and animals in the dosage being used.
The Denton County Health Department is also providing free cans of DEET insect repellant to Denton County residents. The 5,000 cans of repellant are available at Denton County offices at 535 South Loop 288 in Denton, the Steven E. Copeland Government Center at 1400 Farm-to-Market Road 424 in Crossroads, Horn Government Center at 1505 E. McKinney Street in Denton and The Colony Government Center at 6307 Main Street in The Colony.
One can per household will be allowed.
Celina city officials are still determining whether or not to spray for mosquitoes to combat West Nile Virus.
“We are working with Collin County to determine the best route to take,” Celina planning technician Ben Rodriguez said.
He said the city has only received one call complaining about mosquitoes. He said there is more information about West Nile Virus on the city website.
