11-5A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles remain undefeated in district play, Mustangs move to .500 with win

Rowlett was one of the few area teams that took an extended break for the holidays.
As a result, the rested Eagles returned to the court on Wednesday for the first time since Dec. 21.
There might have been some concern about rust from all the time away, but that was quickly erased, as Rowlett opened the game on a 23-3 run and went on to a 78-42 rout of South Garland.
The Eagles (14-7) remain undefeated in 11-5A at 3-0 and are one-half game behind Lakeview, which moved to 4-0 with a win over previously-unbeaten Naaman Forest (2-1).
Rowlett followed up its dominating start with another strong effort in the second quarter to expand the advantage to 47-16 and they were able to put it in cruise control from there.
Taylee Alexander and Dominique Oliver each scored 15 points to pace the Eagles, while Lydia Williams was also in double figures with 13.
Sachse solidified its hold on fourth place on Wednesday, improving to 2-2 with a 57-34 win over winless Garland.
Like Rowlett, the Mustangs were keyed by a strong start, as they went on a 16-2 run to start the game and the Owls never got any closer.
Makyla Isler and Cynthia Matthews each scored 13 points and Monica Dorsey chipped in with eight.
Sachse will enjoy a bye on Saturday, while the Eagles will try to put some distance between themselves and third place when they play at Naaman Forest.
