Allen is ready to unveil the latest piece in its public art collection.
The city will dedicate "A is for Allen" by Gordon Huether during a Saturday ceremony starting at 10 a.m. The 12-foot x 16-foot sculpture is in the shape of the letter A and made of native stone, stainless steel, powder-coated steel and glass. It is at the intersection of Exchange Parkway and U.S. Highway 75.
The piece was commissioned last year.
Allen's public art collection is made up of 12 pieces and includes "Rail Ladder Fire" by Christopher Fennell, a sculpture at Fire Station #5 constructed from decommissioned ladders and old train rails, and "Oceano" by Roger White Stoller, a 6-foot tall bronze sculpture at the Allen Public Library.
Allen's complete public art collection can be viewed at http://cityofallen.org/facilities.aspx?page=list&search=1&CID=7.
