Karate kids

The Alert Child of Texas Karate Class in Mesquite recently held its end-of-year karate tournament. This is an after-school program offering weekly classes in karate, anti-kidnapping and self-defense, sponsored by the Mesquite ISD Community Education department. The event was held in Mesquite at Terry Middle School on Dec. 1. Classes are comprised of students from Kimball Elementary School and Mary Moss Elementary School, with students ranging from 4 to 15 years old. The events included Five Station Kick, Triple Kick, High Jump and Release Drill, timed events and non-timed events. Several students also participated in the Grand Sparring Event. Individual trophies were awarded to Mesquite students in each event. Other areas participating in the tournament were several locations in Dallas, Duncanville and Allen. Compass schedule change

Currently COMPASS operates as a weekday commuter service with eight outbound trips in the morning between 5:02 and 8:33 a.m. and eight inbound trips in the evening between 2:56 and 6:38 p.m. As a result of the rider survey, a schedule change began Dec. 3 in which the evening schedule was adjusted to operate between 3:38 and 6:58 p.m. to accommodate later returns from Dallas. The 2:56 p.m. Lawnview Station departure will be terminated in favor of a later 6:58 p.m. Lawnview Station departure. The operating schedule is published on the DART website as Express Bus Route 282.




VNA volunteers needed

The Visiting Nurse Association needs Eldercare Friends volunteers in the Rowlett area.
