Education foundation, Texas Legends partner for fundraiser

Frisco ISD has long enjoyed its partnerships with the city and local businesses, and tonight that will be evident at the Texas Legends' home basketball game against the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
The game, scheduled for 7 p.m., Legends players will be wearing specially designed alternative jerseys featuring the Frisco Education Foundation's logo. Following the game, jerseys will also be available in a silent auction. All the proceeds raised in the auction will go to the foundation.
The jerseys were designed and created by Frisco-based RMG Apparel Corporation, which has worked with Frisco ISD -- as well as Plano ISD and McKinney ISD -- in the past.
Allison Miller, director of the Frisco Education Foundation, said the event is just the latest in the foundation's strong partnership with the Legends and other local businesses.
"Since the Legends first came to town, they've been big supporters of the community and have worked very closely with the education foundation," she said. "This event will help support the foundation -- it's just a time for staff and students of the school district to have a fun night out supporting a local sports team and the Frisco Education Foundation."
Tonight won't be the first time the school district's had a "Night with the Texas Legends," as it calls the event. In previous years, the two have held pre-game fundraisers where Frisco ISD teachers and staff played a basketball game.
This year, however, the decision was made to focus on ticket sales and the silent auction to raise funds for the foundation.
"Every year the Legends look for new and fun ways to promote our event," Miller said. "Specially designed jerseys are brand new -- we've never done this before. This all comes back to the foundation's job of connecting the community and education."
In addition to its partnership with the Legends, the Frisco Education Foundation also works with FC Dallas and the Texas Tornado. Miller said an event with FC Dallas will likely take place in April or May; the Texas Tornado held its event in December.
Frisco's other professional sports team, the Frisco RoughRiders, support education in Frisco by holding events with local PTAs.
Bill Boyce, president of the Legends, said the team is always happy to work with nonprofits that support the local community such as the education foundation.
"Frisco Education Foundation does a lot of great things for education in our community, and we love finding ways we can increase their brand awareness and help them raise money," he said. "They do a tremendous job of promoting education and providing scholarships for graduating seniors."
Tickets for the game are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Frisco ISD administration building, located at 5515 Ohio Drive, for $10. Half of all ticket proceeds will go to the Frisco Education Foundation.
For those who can't attend in person, the game will be televised on KTXD 47.
During halftime of the game, new Frisco ISD Superintendent Jeremy Lyon will address the crowd, and more events with Frisco ISD students and staff are also planned.
"This is a full Frisco ISD night," Miller said. "Our students and staff are part of the pre-game festivities -- such as singing the national anthem and the color guard -- so this is truly an FISD night."
