Elementary school to host tournament

Southridge Elementary School will host a chess classic tournament Feb. 23 at the school, 495 W. Corporate Drive.

The tournament is open to all kindergarten through 12th grade players in Fort Worth, Denton, Dallas and surrounding areas.

Registration is $10 for rated players if received by Feb. 18. On-site registration for rated players is $15 with a mandatory half-point first round bye. USCF membership required for all section except unrated. Registration for unrated players before Feb. 18 is $5. On-site registration for unrated players is $10 with a mandatory half-point first round bye. On-site registration is from 8-9 a.m.

Sections include: unrated kindergarten through sixth, primary kindergarten through third (under 300), elementary kindergarten through sixth (under 500), elementary kindergarten through sixth open, middle and high school under 700, middle and high school open and open nonrated.

The format will be five round Swiss, non-elimination. Round 1 starts at 9 a.m. Others follow ASAP. Primary will be schedules independently to complete faster.

Primary awards will be given at the completion of that section. All other awards will be handed out at the end of the last round. Each section will have three individual trophies and three team trophies.

One half-point bye will be allowed for the first four rounds, if requested before round one.
