Wise eager to continue town's vision

Published: Thursday, January 31, 2013 11:28 PM CST
Mark Wise said Flower Mound has made great strides in economic development during the last year, and he said he wants to help continue it.

Thursday, Wise filed to run for re-election in Place 3 on the Flower Mound Town Council.

Wise has served two years on the council and has been deputy mayor pro tem for the last year.

During that year, he was part of a council that unanimously voted to approve several economic development projects, including $14.3 million in store improvements and a fuel station at Kroger on FM 1171, as well as Lakeside DFW, the $1 billion mixed-use project set to be located off FM 2499 and Lakeside Parkway.

"We have a lot of things going," Wise said. "You can't go very far without seeing dirt flying and bulldozers going to work. It's exciting to be a part of that. It's good to see the economic development that we're embarking on."

Wise said with a change in vision the council began a year ago, the town is primed for many great projects.

"We have a new outlook staff-wise," Wise said. "We want to see quality development come to town, and we're heading down that path."

If elected, Wise said there are other issues he and the rest of the council would face, including the town's traffic.

"We're going to have to work with TxDOT and the city of Grapevine," Wise said of the ongoing connectivity issues on FM 2499 heading out of Flower Mound. "And we're going to be going through a lot of growing pains with FM 1171 in the coming months."

Wise said the future of Lake Ralph Hall, a proposed lake near Ladonia, is another issue facing the town. Should the permit for the lake be approved, Flower Mound would bare the majority of the expense since Flower Mound is the Upper Trinity Regional Water District's largest customer.

"I'm not sure that it's in Flower Mound's best interest to take the biggest piece of that," Wise said. "It's a lot of money we don't want to fork out."

Wise has served on the town's board of adjustment and the oil and gas board of appeals. He is a member of the Summit Club in Flower Mound and he has co-chaired the fundraising branch of the Friends of Scouting.
