Hensarling asks students to help send vets some love
U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Dallas is asking students in area schools across the Fifth Congressional District to honor the service and sacrifice of military veterans by participating in the annual Valentines for Vets program.
Each year, Hensarling's office collects hand-made Valentine's Day cards from students in his district and delivers them to hospitalized veterans at the Dallas Veterans Administration Medical Center, local VFW and American Legion posts and active duty military service members visiting the USO Center at DFW International Airport.
"These valentines are a great way to say thank you to the brave men and women who have made - and are still making - tremendous sacrifices to protect our freedom," Hensarling said. "We need to let them know we appreciate all that they have done for our country. I know each veteran who receives one of these cards will be happy to see how much our students care about them and care about America."
Teachers, principals, parents and organizations that would like to participate in the effort should contact Alexandra Collumb in Hensarling's Dallas office at 214-349-9996. All valentines must be received by Monday, Feb. 11 to ensure delivery on Valentine's Day. Hensarling's office is at 6510 Abrams Road, Suite 243, in Dallas.
Valentines for Vets is an annual program held in conjunction with National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week. Every February, Americans open their hearts to our nation's hospitalized veterans by sending cards and letters to VA medical centers across the country.
The Dallas County portion of the Fifth District is comprised of the East Dallas neighborhoods of Lake Highlands and Lakewood, as well as Mesquite, Seagoville, Sunnyvale, and portions of Garland and Rowlett.
