Football: Cougars grounded in loss to Frisco
By Justin Thomas, jthomas@starlocalnews.com
For the first time in three contests, The Colony's football team was unable to crank up its high-powered rushing attack, totaling just 68 yards on the ground in a 28-7 loss against Frisco.
The Cougars drop to 3-2 with the loss and are in a four-way tie for third in District 9-4A with Frisco Centennial, Frisco Wakeland and Little Elm at 1-1. Prosper and the Raccoons currently lead the district at 2-0.
On Friday, The Colony trailed, 14-7, midway through the third quarter following a 14-yard touchdown run from Cougars' running back Bryan Hammond.
Quarterback Jake Battaglia got the Raccoons out to a solid start with short touchdown runs in each of the first two quarters and also finished with 84 yards passing on 6-of-7 attempts.
While Frisco's offense was rather pedestrian with 225 total yards, the team took advantage of three Cougar turnovers while committing zero of its own.
Troy Chandler completed 5-of-12 passes for The Colony and also led the squad with 32 yards on the ground. Matt Nelson paced the receivers with two receptions for 13 yards.
The Colony continues at 7 p.m. Friday against Frisco Heritage from Frisco's Memorial Stadium.
The Coyotes (1-4, 0-2) have struggled of late, falling in their last two contests by an average score of 44.5-10.5 against Prosper and Wakeland.
