Angela's at the Crosswalk celebrates new look, identity with ribbon cutting event
Plano's Daisy's Barn and Grill renamed to honor Restaurateur and Executive Chef Angela Murphy

On Thursday, Jan. 24, Restrauteur Angela Murphy of Plano celebrated her birthday with the ribbon cutting and grand opening of her re-named Downtown Plano restaurant, Angela's at the Crosswalk. Special guests included Plano Mayor Phil Dyer, Plano Mayor Pro Tem Lissa Smith and many others.
"The new Angela’s at the Crosswalk menu has something for all appetites. This is a place for celebrations, a nice meeting place, and a unique locale for fundraising events," said owner Julie Holmer of Plano. "The carefully-remodeled interior highlights the unique history of this beautiful historic building, and our revamped menu features many of Angela's specialties."
The restaurant offers seasonal specials and strives to source products from local and small businesses. Breakfast is served all day, as is a large selection of made from scratch comfort food, soups, salads, sandwiches, Henry’s Homemade Ice Cream and fresh pastries, including Murphy's news worthy pies. Angela's at the Crosswalk also offers a full service bar featuring handcrafted cocktails.
Angela's at the Crosswalk also provides service for corporate luncheons and offers delivery service, and the restaurant and staff can be reserved for private events, as well.
Angela's at the Crosswalk is named for Murphy, who relocated to Plano from Orange County, Calif., in 2010, where she had run a successful restaurant and bakery for almost 20 years. Originally from Rome, Italy, she attended college in Paris where she received her culinary training from Le Cordon Bleu. Angela's recipes, passion and dedication were instrumental to the creation and success of Daisy's Barn and Grill.
Holmer was a customer at the previous Daisy’s Barn and Grill location on Avenue K, where she befriended Murphy. When the restaurant relocated to its current location on 15th street, Holmer and her husband, David Rankin, became Murphy's business partners.
Holmer and Rankin recently appointed Derek Mills of Plano as the restaurant's general manager. Mills has extensive restaurant and bar experience including an apprenticeship under an advanced sommelier from the French Master Courts of Sommeliers. He has worked at and managed a variety of restaurants including a fine dining steak and chop house, a French patisserie, a jazz club and a Mexican restaurant and most recently a high volume, southern cooking restaurant and bar.
"Aside from his extensive knowledge and experience, his brings an outstanding commitment to customer service," said Holmer.
Holmer was also born in Italy and has lived in Plano since 1981. Rankin has always had a passion for cooking and has enjoyed creating some new recipes for Angela’s.
"We have young children of our own, and we wanted to create a restaurant atmosphere that is warm, comfortable and also family-friendly," added Holmer. "On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights you can bring your family for a great dinner and enjoy live music."
The restaurant also offers Open Mic Night on Mondays.
"We have discovered a great wealth of local talent," said Holmer. "We've booked many of these folks for our guests' weekend entertainment!"
