City to activate fourth red-light camera
Staff report
On Feb. 28, the city of Frisco will activate its fourth red light camera. The camera will be located at the intersection of Legacy and Main, facing the northbound Legacy approach to the intersection.
This location was based on crash data and selected unanimously by the Citizen Advisory Committee for the Photographic Traffic Signal Enforcement Systems. Crash data showed that in the previous 18 months the intersection had five crashes caused by a motorist running a red light.
In March 2011, the City of Frisco activated its first three red-light cameras. In their first year of operation, crashes declined 47 percent at the two intersections the cameras were deployed at. Additionally, the average monthly number of red-light violations at intersections the cameras are located at has been reduced 29 percent.
The Frisco Police Department will continue to work with its Citizen Advisory Committee to identify new intersections that may benefit from the use of red-light cameras.
