Tough Dawgs: North trounces Texas High in playoff opener

PARIS -- In a game full of wild momentum swings, the McKinney North Bulldogs proved to be the last team standing in a dominant 66-45 come-from-behind bi-district victory against Texas High Monday night from Paris High School.

"We came out well and went on a run and then they went on a monstrous run to close out the quarter," said Darryll Craft, North head coach. "Our kids stayed composed in front of that big crowd. They stayed with it and battled back. We didn't get rattled at all tonight."

North stormed out of the gate with a quick lead, only to see Texas High reverse the Bulldogs' fortunes and do the same to an even greater degree that same quarter. The Bulldogs, though, would regroup to run past the Tigers and cruise to the win in their playoff opener.

Horn overwhelms Longview in fourth quarter to claim second seed in playoffs

Published: Saturday, February 16, 2013 12:05 AM CST
If the last week is any indication, Horn is primed and ready for the boys basketball playoffs.

Just three days after taking down 12-5A champion Mesquite for the second time this season, the Jaguars used a dominant fourth quarter to pick up a 61-48 victory over Longview in a seeding game at Tyler Lee High School.

Horn (18-13) earned the second seed out of 12-5A with the win and will play Sachse, the third-place team from 11-5A, in a bi-district playoff game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Royse City High School.

The Jaguars had some ups and downs throughout the night. They trailed early before rallying to take a 30-26 halftime lead.

However, a sluggish third quarter in which they scored only eight points left them in a 40-38 hole.

But Horn saved its best for last, outscoring the Lobos 23-8 down the stretch.

Anthony Sharp had another big game with 20 points, while Alan Hodge scored 13 and Zach Charles added 11.

The Jaguars will be taking on a Sachse team making its first-ever playoff apperance. Longview (20-14) fell to the third seed and will play 11-5A co-champion Rowlett (25-3) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Lindale High School.
