Book sale pops up in Carrollton Feb. 28-March 3

Annual sale Feb. 28-March 3 benefits education

Published: Saturday, February 16, 2013 1:05 PM CST
For the past 12 years, a book store has popped up in Carrollton thanks to the many volunteers of the community and the C-FB ISD Council PTA. This year the location will be at 3044 Old Denton Road Suite 131, the southeast corner of Old Denton and Frankford.

Barbara Morgan, the chair of the sale, shared, "This location has more space than last year, generous parking and a nice mix of retail neighbors on the four corners. We are excited to open our doors for the sale February 28."

The sale will continue through March 3 when the doors will close and the site will once again be quiet.

Sue Avery, Council PTA president, noted, "The Gently Used Book Sale has been the largest all-volunteer community literacy event in the six communities served by C-FB ISD. Funds raised support students and teachers in our schools. The gently used books, DVDs, CDs, computer programs and games are purchased by a wide variety of customers. While every customer is special to us, we especially enjoy watching the children come and choose their own items. The sparkle in their eyes as they sit under the tables and read is truly heartwarming."

Last year more than 100,000 items were available at the sale. In the past year more than $50,000 was distributed in grants to local C-FB ISD PTA units, grants to district educators, scholarships to graduating high school seniors, post prom grants and funds to C-FB ISD for classroom books.

Volunteers are transforming the empty space into a well-organized shop and eagerly anticipate the opening day crowds. Typically the first day is very busy will book dealers, educators and anyone who wants first crack at a great sale.
