M.L. "Tins" Tinsley, 91, of San Antonio, Texas, and a former long-time resident of Kerrville, died on Friday, February 8, 2013, in a San Antonio hospital.
Tins was born on January 12, 1922, in Dallas, Texas, to Maurice Leon Tinsley Sr. and Annie Lucille Gee Tinsley.As a veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Navy as a pilot. While serving in the Navy, Tins once pitched to Ted Williams. Tins was a football player at Southern Methodist University in the 1940s.
He will be remembered for his love to laugh, his love for his family and friends, his passion for playing golf, and his very giving nature. Tins was a very spiritual man and his belief was exemplified through his love of God. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marcia Tinsley of San Antonio, formerly of Kerrville; one daughter, Karen Stinnett and husband, Jack, of Tyler; one son, Scott Tinsley and wife, Laurie, of McKinney; sister-in-law, Sue Ellison of Bellevue, Washington; nephews, Edward Eanes and Rad Eanes; and five grandchildren, Jack Stinnett Jr., Guy Stinnett, Hannah Tinsley, Colin Tinsley and Will Tinsley.
Services will be conducted by Pastor Gil Richardson and Dr. Bill Jacobs on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas. Graveside services will follow on Monday, February 18, 2013, at 9:30 a.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
