Denton County gets red carpet treatment at annual celebration in Austin

With size comes prestige, which touts clout and power, too.
Denton County was officially recognized this week at the State Capitol for having all that on display during the annual Denton County Days celebration in Austin.
With a mushrooming population approaching nearly 700,000, Denton County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the country. Just over 30 years ago, the population was less than 145,000. In 2012, Denton County was named one of the top 10 job markets in the country. Accordingly, Money Magazine promptly hailed it as one of the best places to live.
"I thought it went real well," said Horn, who, serving as the County's CEO, has been a part of a number of these celebrations. "All of our elected officials were at the breakfast Tuesday morning and gave reports. At the reception the night before at Cerrano's we had great participation, particularly with some of the new representatives, where we got the chance to put a face with the name, which is always helpful when you are trying to get something done.
"So I thought it was successful. It's just a really nice event and the various interests that were represented from our county had an opportunity to look into matters on a personal basis," Horn added. "It's just always better if you can do it face-to-face, of course."
State senator Jane Nelson-R, Flower Mound, was among the delegation composed of other elected officials as well as civic, business and education leaders. She noted the history of the county named for John B. Denton when it was established in 1846 and formed from the original Peters Colony Land Grant. Proudly remarking on the distinguished county courthouse that was dedicated in 1897 and is still recognized as being one of the region's most-impressive sites, Nelson marked the occasion with a glowing tribute via a press release.
"Denton County is an ideal place to begin and grow a family," she said. "Every citizen can come together to enjoy our county's various cultural and recreational opportunities - whether it's spending a day on Lake Lewisville or catching a race at the Texas Motor Speedway. Denton County truly has something to offer everyone, and people around the country are starting to take notice.
"From our vibrant business community, our elected officials and chambers of commerce, our educational institutions, and, most importantly, our citizens, we all help make Denton County the wonderful place that it is," Nelson said. "This week, we thank them for their time, and I appreciate their service."
