For the last several months the 4-H students from Alton Boyd Elementary in Allen, Texas, have been busy making ceramic bowls for the 14th Annual Empty Bowls Project, which is sponsored by Kroger and benefits The North Texas Food Bank.

The Boyd 4-H has 45 members from grades3-6 and completed 45 beautiful bowls! The after-school 4-H club realized that many students here at Boyd receive Food 4 Kids, which is a Friday food program that goes home with selected students so that they can receive nutritious food during the weekend.

When 4-H decided to do a service project this year, the Food Bank seemed like a good choice for us and it seemed that it would benefit lots of kids. Our bowls are truly works of art and very beautiful. Our art teacher, Mrs. Hendeson, who co-sponsors our 4-H program, helped us make them.

If you go to The Empty Bowls luncheon, you may get lucky and receive one of our bowls! The North Texas luncheon will be held at The Myerson Symphony Center on March 1, 2013. Please go to the food bank’s website for more information at www.ntfb.org. Thank you for supporting our 4-H club and for helping to feed thousands of families from North Texas.
